Amarillo High School Speech & Debate

Mellessa Denny, Speech and Debate, Fine Arts Department Chair

Mellessa Denny

This is Mrs. Denny's 13th year of teaching and coaching the debate team and her 6th year at Amarillo High. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from WTAMU. Mrs. Denny has sponsored the Mock Trial team for 9 years. She is a member of the Texas Speech Communication Association, the West Texas Speech Association, the National Forensic League (2nd diamond level coach), and the Texas Forensic Association. Mrs. Denny is also the UIL Academic Coordinator for Amarillo High and served on the Communication TEKS Revision Committee for the Texas Education Agency this past year. Mellessa Denny hosts an invitational speech and debate tournament every year the first weekend of December at Amarillo High. She has coached numerous students to regional, state, and national tournaments in debate, speech and mock trial.

  Married twenty-four years with three children, two of which attend Amarillo High School. 
  Hobbies include reading, walking and playing the piano when I have access to one.
