The Amarillo High School Sandie Orchestra is rich in pride and tradition. It has enjoyed a long history of success and prestige. Students and staff strive to maintain high expectations and a standard of excellence.
Mr. Lopez is a Lubbock Coronado high school graduate. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Texas Tech University where he was also a charter member of the Texas Tech String Project. He begin his teaching career in Lubbock ISD were he taught 6th grade orchestra while also performing in the Lubbock and Amarillo Symphony Orchestras. In 2003 he became the orchestra director at Sam Houston Middle School in Amarillo and transferred in 2005 to Caprock High School where he remained the orchestra director until 2009 when he moved into the director position at Amarillo High. While at Sam Houston and Caprock his orchestral groups won Sweepstakes. Mr. Lopez is also a section coach for the Amarillo Symphony Youth Orchestra, he is a Who's Who Among American High School Teachers and a KAMR Teacher of the Year. Mr. Lopez and his wife, Christy, have one son named Timothy. He enjoys movies and music from the eighties.
