Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where can I find information about high school reunions? A: Since the District does not collect information about school reunions, questions regarding reunions should be directed to the school from which you graduated. You can also check the Amarillo Globe News website at http://www.amarillo.com/ and do a search on Reunion Roundup. The newspaper publishes class reunion information as they receive it. Another resource is http://www.greatreunions.com/ This company coordinates class reunions and has worked with several AISD high schools to plan reunions. Q: How can I get a copy of my school transcript/records?
A. Transcripts can be obtained by writing or visiting the AISD Student Records Office at: Amarillo ISD Education Support Center, 7200 Interstate 40 West, Amarillo, Texas, 79106-2598. The first transcript is free. There is a $3 fee for each additional transcript. Click here to download a Transcript Request form and mail it, along with a check or money order made payable to Amarillo ISD, to the above address. NOTE: The District does not keep immunization records on file. Q: Where can I find a listing of job openings in Amarillo ISD?
A. Current job postings are found in the Employment section of our Web site. The Employment pages include most of the information you would need to apply for a position with AISD such as an online application form, plus benefits information, information about critical needs areas and certification requirements. Q: Where can I find graduation dates?
A: Graduation dates are found here. Q: I am considering moving into the Amarillo ISD. How do I know what school my child will attend and how do I begin the enrollment process?
A: To find out what school your child would attend, call the AISD Student Records office at 806-326-1350. You can also get more information about school boundaries and feeder routes by clicking on the desired school in the Visit Our Schools section of our Web site. Once you determine which school your child will attend, contact that school to start the enrollment process (a complete listing of schools and phone numbers is also found at School Roster. To register your child, you will need to bring proof of residence, the name and address of the child's previous school, and immunization records. Visit the Newcomer's Section on our Web site for more information. NOTE: The District also provides an Information Packet for those moving into the area. You may request a packet by e-mailing Becky McIlraith or calling 806-326.1011. Q: Where can I find information about test scores?
A. Test scores for each school are published in the school profiles which are found under the Visit Our Schools section of the Web site. The information is updated during the fall of each school year, after the District receives the Academic Excellence System Indicator System (AEIS) Report from the state. This report contains test scores, attendance rates, drop out rates, and other accountability indicator information. A source for state test scores and other accountability information is the Texas Education Agency Web site at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/. For more information about AISD test scores, contact your school. You may also call Charles Ritchie, AISD's program director for assessment at 806-326.1335 or email him. Q: Where can I find a listing of schools with principals' names, addresses and phone numbers?
A: Follow this link or navigate to the "Visit Our Schools" section of the website and click on 'School Roster'. Q: What procedure should I follow if I have a problem with my child's teacher?
A: AISD encourages open dialogue with parents and the resolution of conflict at the level closest to the problem. You should first discuss the problem or concern with your child's teacher. If the outcome of that discussion is not satisfactory, you may request a conference with the principal. If you are still not satisfied, you may request a conference with the appropriate Executive Cluster Director. If this conference proves unsatisfactory, you may request a conference with the Superintendent and ultimately appear before the School Board in accordance with Board policy. You can find more information in the AISD Student Handbook/Student Code of Conduct, under 'Most Requested' on our Web site. Q: Where can I find information about the Amarillo On-line School (AISD's virtual school)?
A: The Amarillo On-line School offers high school students a way to take courses for credit outside the normal school day. Students may enroll in certain classes over the Internet, with approval from a school counselor. For more information, visit the Amarillo On-line School Web site. Q: How can I find out more information about AISD bus routes?
A: Because of federal reimbursement guidelines, Amarillo ISD can only provide bus service for students who live at least two miles from their school unless they are in a special program such as special education or bi-lingual. The exceptions to this '2-mile rule' are Carver Early Childhood Academy, Carver Elementary Academy, and the Amarillo Area Center for Advanced Learning (AACAL). These schools provide bus service because they accept students from all over the district. AISD currently contracts with a company called Durham for transportation services. For more information about bus routes and schedules, contact Durham by phone at 806-371-5697. Q: What are the steps for requesting a transfer from one school within AISD to another school in AISD?
A: Amarillo ISD has a flexible enrollment policy that allows students to transfer from one AISD school to another on a space available basis. Transfer applications should be submitted to the receiving school by May 1 of each year. Applications for transfer may be obtained at any AISD school. For information on transfer procedures, students/parents should contact either the principal of the school they wish to attend or the principal of their current school. |
